At different stages in careers, newest Lions reinforcements Fuller and Robinson are looking to make their marks
Allen Park — The corner of the Detroit Lions locker room nearest to the entrance might as well be formally named the replacement wing.
Even after the room’s remodel this offseason, with an increased number of stalls in the main area, the overflow is filled to the brim with midseason additions, from tight end Ross Dwelley to wide receiver Malik Cunningham to defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson.
Most notably, the area is drowning in defensive backs, all signed to address a position group ravaged by injuries. Since the season began, DJ Reed landed on injured reserve. So did Khalil Dorsey and Daniel Thomas. Avonte Maddox has a hamstring strain, Terrion Arnold is battling a shoulder concern, and Kerby Joseph has been dealing with a sore knee all season.
Add in Branch Branch, who is suspended this week, and you can easily understand the team requiring reinforcements. General manager Brad Holmes and director of pro scouting Rob Lohman have been busy patching things in October, bringing aboard four cornerbacks and a safety — Tre Flowers, Nick Whiteside, Arthur Maulet, Jammie Robinson and Kendall Fuller.
In the past two weeks, Flowers, Maulet and Whiteside have already seen playing time. Robinson and Fuller arrived this week, but could also be forced into action just as quickly.
As coach Dan Campbell likes to say, the train doesn’t stop for anyone. So, with little time for formal introductions, let’s get you up to date on the two newest locker room residents ahead of Monday’s game with Tampa Bay.
