Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell met with local media for the first time since the league meetings in early April. Here are three key takeaways from Friday’s media session.
Anytime I can get a 'Sheed call out, I'm good. One of the most underrated athletes in Detroit sports history and man, would he fit this Lions team.
Where would Wallace play if he was an NFL player. I know the standard answer is TE or WR for NBA players but that's not understanding him, he has to play defense. I'll say Safety or Nickel. Bet he would blitz a lot.
I covered Wallace. You realize NBA players are built so differently than NFL players. I don't think Sheed has a place in the NFL, just like Penei Sewell has no place in the NBA. Both were great, but Sheed was so long, he'd never win a damn thing in the leverage battle. He could be the guy in the 70s who blocked long field goals at the cross bar.
You are taking the assignment to serious, I was referring to his personality, he is playing defense. I will forever remember him pounding the floor and calling out defensive signals when he was out of the game in the playoffs.
Suppose Wallace got into football as a youth and trained that way he would have been a DE, but you are right, he would have leverage problems. Considering his makeup I wouldn't bet against him being in the NFL if that was what he wanted when he was 12.
I don't know of many that would have made the sacrifice he made for the team. He had legit HOF talent; he went 1st overall for a reason. If he wanted he could have been top 5 scorer, he could have been a 25-10 guy but he wanted to win more.
And you know, I see you Em Dash, just grinding this off season on Coach Campbell's quotes.
