Chuck Clark's experience, communication and leadership bring stability to Lions' uncertain safety situation
Allen Park — Veteran safety Chuck Clark has played a lot of defensive snaps during his nine-year NFL career — 5,387, to be exact.
And Clark, who appeared in 15 games with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, has spent most of his career not just racking up snaps, but racking them up while playing for good defenses. Out of the eight seasons he’s seen action — he missed the 2024 campaign with a severe ankle injury — he’s been part of six top-10 units, including four that finished top five in scoring.
That experience, paired with a versatile skill set, made him a good target for the Detroit Lions this offseason as they navigate some significant injury concerns at the safety position.
