So Shep is saying that if he sends in a player to play a position and a scheme that he's never played in a game or practice, that the player is expected to be ready to go? That seems crazy. What's the purpose of a coach, if not to prepare a player for a role? Using Shep's logic, we'd need no coaches, just someone to rotate the lineup because the players would automatically and independently be self-prepared.

Hell, even ARSB takes the occasional punt return in practice so that he's ready in a pinch.

Make it make sense.

"three of those gains came on fourth-down snaps in the first half."

Seems to me the Lions have scored a TD or had a big gain on more 4th downs than you might expect. I assumed there is so much defensive attention on stopping before the line to gain that if you break through or over that it becomes a big play. My favorite example is the Greg Landry's QB sneak for 76 yards in 1970. According to Google AI it was 3rd and 2 against the Pack and he got tackled on the 11 yard line.

Vaki's been on the roster for 3 years. If he was 'the guy' he'd have shown it by now. At best he was a hope coming out of college. This was such a glaring mistake by Brad Holmes, to let DMo walk, and to replace him with hope and a dance.

My word. This is large and obvious. If Jamyr goes down, even the threat of a running game is over.

I don't think it was a bad idea to trade DeMo. He wanted to be a starter and that just wasn't possible with the Lions. Holmes got a 2026 4th round pick, Juice AND a 2027 7th rd pick. Holmes got the better end of that trade. DeMo had a good 1st game but nothing since. I do think that Holmes could have gotten a better replacement than Pacheco through free agency or the draft, but trading DeMo was the right move.

I'm curious about the "bad IDs" too.

Are the bad IDs on run stuffs on the Center or QB recognizing and communicating or individual blocker making the right choice?

They work together in concert on protection calls.

I'm hoping that as the year progresses, Vaki can earn more touches to take some of the load off Jah. Small sample size, I know, but he's shown some ability with the ball in his hands as both runner and receiver. Maybe some 2 back sets?
