Detroit Lions coordinators Kelvin Sheppard, Dave Fipp and John Morton met with the media for their weekly press sessions on Thursday. Here are the highlights from those conversations.
If we were 9-10 games into the season and the Browns were still stopping the run very well, that might be a concern. Cincy's run game is abysmal. The Packs' run game is not that strong. King Henry is probably on the downside of a pretty decent career.
Mostly everyone was worried about losing the two coordinators. When you have the talent that Detroit has, they can run just about any scheme. I think I mentioned before the start of the regular season that Detroit might do better under these new guys if only for the fact that other teams have not seen them operate. We have the talent to make it work.
Why does Morton have to say something like "they haven't seen a run game like ours"?!? Campbell is so good at avoiding that kind of talk, I can't imagine he loves Morton saying something like that. There's absolutely no reason for a coach to do that.
Every time Johnny Morton likes somebody, he compares them to Anquan Boldin. Did that with Amon-Ra, too.
What makes me feel old is that I remember when some unknown rookie named Boldin tore the Lions a new one with 10 for 200 in the season opener. That was in 2003.
Thanks for the breakdown of the coordinaters Justin. Glad the Lions make these guys available and it’s even better that they are excellent communicators !
I LOVE that they see their press obligations as something more than giving useless coach speak for 10 minutes. It tells you how much they respect the journalists and fans.
They are insightful, funny and passionate and they aren’t saying anything too revealing that gives opponents tips.
You’re right, Steve. That’s not like Campbell to sit back and listen to talk. He’s all action.

I like how he then basically implied he lies to you guys by saying you can't trust anything he says schematically in public 😅

LMAO. I remember that too and saying to my wife “What was THAT? WTF just happened?”
I had the same feeling later on when we opened against the Falcons in Matt Ryan’s inaugural game.
You’ve got many years of feeling old ahead of you, I remember Milt Plum!
Who we traded former Michigan State QB Jim Ninowski for. I'm even older ya see
Leading to a loss with Charles Rogers
A true full circle moment. I love that Shep remembered the question from 22 and brought it up before you did.

Anyone have links to the players imitating Morton's mannerisms on social media? Love stuff like that
A good portion of it involves profanity. Apparently Morton is a little less buttoned-up than Ben and talks more like a player.
I think it's in the latest episode of the St. Brown Bros podcast.
Yes it is D Mo leading the way.
