I think Dortch has a handshake deal to return to the Lions in a day or two. It's the only way this makes sense since they did not keep a punt returner. He is a veteran and does not have to clear waivers. I think another player could be put on IR in a day or two so they can bring Dortch back.

They did not need to do any roster shenanigans with releasing a player this year, though, since teams are entitled to put two guys on IR at cut down and the Lions used only one spot there. Dorch also had a big signing bonus they now eat so he would be a bad choice for that maneuver

Help me Wingo and Small ? Really !!!

They might not still be on the 53 in a day or two. More moves are coming.

Surprised at this point they are still taking up roster spots with Vaki, Onwuzurike, and Wingo. Really shocked at Wingo. Also wonder about carrying 5 RBs. But I suspect Small is there to return punts and kickoffs now that Dortch has been released.

Vaki is an elite special teams player

5 rb's makes no sense. sems like a place holder to pick someone up on waivers

Roster is likely to change before September 13.

Very surprised at just 4 wide receivers and thought maybe Bachie would make it at linebacker.i

Who is there pr/kr return guy? I'm bummed about Kennedy; he always made plays when given a chance.

I think Dortch has a side deal to return. This is roster shenanigans.

Conklin is a shocker

I feel like after SGH we went with guys we drafted over guys who won the camp battle. Idk. Maybe not but that's sort of what it feels like despite the crowing of a meritocracy.

Wingo the only one that really sticks out. He has done nothing to date. If they really like small and have concerns about Pacheco then that works. But man… this says vaki might not be RB ready.

Tough to understand why no 5th WR or Whiteside over Wingo

I feel like I’ve been on the titanic staring at the iceberg that is our cornerback room for 6 months now.

Only thing I can think is that they see Meeks as a WR/TE hybrid

What's the difference between Cut and Waived? Contractual status I would guess.

I believe if you are a vet who is cut then you immediately become a free agent without needing to go through waivers. Waived players are not free agents and can be picked up by any team until they pass through waivers.

Players with less than four (or three?) league years get waived and go through waivers where other teams can put in a claim. Players with more years get cut/released, and can sign with another team immediately
