Detroit Lions film review: Exploring how the Vikings created consistent pass-rush pressure
Allen Park — The reason for the Detroit Lions’ 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday wasn’t singular. They couldn’t run, couldn’t stop the run, had costly lapses in discipline, and made multiple, game-altering miscues on special teams.
However, the inability to protect quarterback Jared Goff stood above the others.
Goff faced a season-high 18 pressures from the Vikings, while having a season-low average of 2.36 seconds to get rid of the ball. The visitors got home for a sack five times, tying the second-most times Goff has been dropped behind the line in his decade-long career.
Goff has now been sacked 14 times in the past four games. That’s his worst stretch as a Lion. In recent years, the veteran quarterback has seemingly had the answer key to Brian Flores’ blitz-happy attack.
What went wrong in this one, and what’s the concern level with the protection going forward? That’s the focus of this week’s film review.
