Everyone wants to talk about the Detroit Lions defense. That’s fair and understandable. Statistically, they’ve been the league’s worst unit. However, the team’s offense is supposed to be its strength and there’s no debate that group also let them down in Sunday’s loss to Carolina.

Detroit racked up yards throughout the contest, but finished with just 26 points. Much like the season opener against New Orleans, there were so many missed opportunities to do more damage, taking pressure off the struggling defense.

The Lions settled for four field goals against the Panthers and turned it over on downs after working into the red zone in the fourth quarter.

Before we dig into the defense later today, let’s dive deep into the tape to determine what went well and why the offense ultimately couldn’t get out of its own way.
