Detroit Lions free agency tape study: Larry Borom's film reveals capable starter with clear strengths
Allen Park — When we talked to Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes this week, as part of a sit-down interview with the “Lions Collective,” he explained what the team liked about Larry Borom, the offensive tackle the Lions had signed in free agency.
“Seeing what he did at Miami, especially at right tackle, you start looking at the film, and it’s like, ‘Man, this is probably the most consistent ball that I’ve seen him play,’” Holmes said. “Then you start taking a deeper dive of him at right tackle, even in the past, and you start seeing this level of consistency versus the guard spots or the left tackle spots. (I’m) not saying that he can’t play those spots, too, because he can, but that’s what kept him up there for us.”
If the season opened today, in late March, Borom would almost certainly be a starter. And, based on Holmes’ comments, Borom would likely be plugged in at right tackle, where he’s played most of his snaps, both in college and the pros. Obviously, what the team accomplishes in the draft could alter that trajectory.
With all of that in mind, let’s take a look at the film to get a better sense about Borom’s strengths and weaknesses as a player.
