The Lions prioritized upgrading its offensive line this offseason, particularly the center position, but those plans took a significant blow over the weekend.
The one place along the o-line that undeniably got a better player from last year was at center, now it’s worse. You’re left with great Sewell and hope across the line. Hope better hold the line.
I used to believe it was bad management, bad coaching, bad luck, etc. I’ve always tried to be the voice of reason amongst my family and friends, but I can’t fight it any longer.
THIS ORGANIZATION IS CURSED.
Watching Stafford immediately go win a Super Bowl was tough but I was happy for him. What hurt was that it was further proof that no matter who the team brings in to coach, no matter the GM or how much talent they add, this kind of crap keeps happening. How many times over the last few seasons has Campbell said “it’s just one of those freak occurrences” ? Too many. Here comes another season of the opponent’s blitzing right up the middle. After the Graham Glasgow fiasco last season you’d hope Holmes would recognize that you can’t just plug anyone in at center. It’s a crucial position. Holmes is too stubborn to do something like that. He will scrape the bottom of the barrel and bring in some nobody from the XFL and we are right back to last season already.
I cannot believe I allowed myself to have a little hope for this season. After decades of disappointment you’d think I would learn that only the Lions can make you this depressed and they haven’t even played a down yet.
I hope you all are handling this better than me. I’m usually the one on here saying fans are too negative. I’m a hypocrite today for sure. I’m tired of this crap.
Let's see what McLaughlin can do now that he's a full year removed from his ACL. He's a former Remington Award winner and played for both Ohio State and Alabama. I mean Cooper Beebe came in as a rookie (to Dallas) from Kansas State and was a stud! Maybe McLaughlin can be a revelation for us too!
Tough injury, but sounds like Scruggs is more than capable to fill in and 8-10 weeks in August puts a Mays return shortly after the bye at midseason. Could be worse.
So we'll be dealing with a backup center and likely shuffling the OL throughout the opening weeks.
This is the exact issue that caused so much inconsistency in the offense last year, and now we're back to square one again. Arguably, we're in a *worse* position than we were week 1 of 2025.
Really don't see a path to these team being competitive with a defense whose ceiling is league average and now our biggest weakness on offense just got exponentially weaker.

Every team deals with adversity in some form. Life is pretty boring without it, football is the same.
Maybe Ratledge is the guy. I kind of thought last year he was being groomed for that spot before they signed Mays.
