Detroit Lions secure return of important depth defender, cornerback Rock Ya-Sin
Allen Park — For the past five seasons, Rock Ya-Sin has epitomized being an NFL journeyman. The veteran cornerback has played for a different team each year during that stretch.
Finally, some stability.
After one of the best seasons of his career, where he played more than 600 defensive snaps as a top reserve, Ya-Sin has earned a fresh, one-year deal from the Lions worth up to $4 million, according to the NFL Network.
A second-round draft pick out of Temple in 2019, Ya-Sin spent three seasons with the Colts before beginning an exodus that took him to Las Vegas, Baltimore, San Francisco before Detroit came calling last offseason.
Ya-Sin had logged a career-low 62 defensive snaps with the 49ers in 2024, but quickly proved to be a strong schematic and cultural fit with the Lions. The team was so impressed with his skill set, they even tested him at safety during training camp and the preseason, despite having never played the position previously in his career.
Ya-Sin primarily played special teams early in the season, but stepped into the starting lineup six times, beginning in Week 6, filling in for injured starters DJ Reed and Terrion Arnold.
A physical presence and strong tackler on the perimeter, he limited opposing quarterbacks to completing 53.1% of their throws his direction, resulting in a 76.6 passer rating. He also recorded a career-best nine pass defenses.

Absolutely love this. If I had to choose Amik or ROC, I would take ROC all day. He can play inside, start outside or play deep safety. A+++
Good signing
