Thanks for answering the question Justin. Seeing the intensity you've attacked this new path we shouldn't be surprised at how you attack DIY projects, but as a woodworker myself I appreciate what you've done. It's certainly not typical DIY level results. Keep up the good work!
Stellar work as usual, these always get me thinking.
Love the take on Laporta and we know the Lions would agree and probably bring up his blocking is better on top of all of that. Next year is going to be real interesting contract wise.
Speaking of contracts, you don't get both LBs because the Lions are not paying their 4th LB 4 mil a year no matter how good he is on STs, not when they can sign more Grant Stuards for less than 2 mil every year.
Either Malcom is capable of being a borderline starter, the 3rd LB behind Campbell and Barnes, which is possible BTW, and gets a little more than that 2-year 8 mil. Or they have to bring back Anzalone as a bridge.
What about Amik, suppose he plays this season like he did last year. Good, not great nickel and good outside back-up. He is only 27, could you extend him during the season if he would take say 2-years for 9-10 mil, 2026 guaranteed. That's a little bump over his last contract and I don't think teams will be beating down his door trying to sign him to be a starter.
I'm starting to see a defensive version of Kalif in Amik, total culture fit that plays all out and just plays everywhere, those Lion coaches love that kind of player.
Personally, I think Amik’s future here turns on Rakestraw’s development. He seems to be a forgotten man because of his injury issues last year. If he stays healthy and progresses like they hope, he can fill Amik’s role - maybe even better - at a lower cost.
I came very close to bringing up Rakestraw, one of my favorites in last year's draft and I think he has a very high ceiling, have a lot of hope he can stay healthy and takes the Nickel.
But even if he does having Amik around gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Fuzzy feelings are expensive in the NFL.
Imagine having a top 6 DBs of Joseph, Branch, Arnold, Reed, Robertson and Rakestraw over the next 3 years
Thanks Justin. Great answers to great questions. I would add to the answer to the trick play question that those types of plays only work if the standard offense is working.

You are triage for offseason delerium tremens. Thanks for such meaty Lions scraps at this time of year. I need them...

Hey, he can't return punts can he. JK

Great mail bag Justin. And REALLY impressive DIY work, esp considering your “day” job. Dad would be proud, on many levels, I think.

Thanks, Justin. Appreciate you sharing some of your own personal details, too. Part of what makes the DFN so great.
