Vaki was an odd choice when drafted and two seasons later remains an odd choice. Just a 4th rounder, but still...would be nice to draft for need in those later rounds if nothing else. I mean, you gotta fill holes at some point, and it's not like we'd draft another receiver just because he was the best on the board, right? Right??
The kick off and punt returns definitely need to improve this year. Kick off returns last year felt like there was no hope of getting the ball on the other side of the 30 yard line.
Bates should get an extension but needs to work on the consistency. I don't want to see us go back to having a revolving door at kicker.
Justin brings up an interesting point on Fox. With limited punts because of Dan's aggressiveness on 4th down, does it really make sense to give him a top tier punter contract? Will be interesting to see how that plays out.
No mention of Lovett, but I thought he was being groomed to potentially take over for Raymond in the return game.
Extending Fox seems like a no-brainer and hopefully Bates can work out the kinks. (I assume the reason the team hasn’t exercised his ERFA is because an extension is in the works.)
I found it telling that they went with Tom Kennedy over Lovett, who was already on the roster. Doesn't mean he's done, but another reporter asked Lovett where he hopes to see himself in a year and he responded with, and I'm paraphrasing, hopefully still on the roster. He's under contract, he'll get a shot, but he doesn't have the sturdy frame Fipp prefers on kickoffs, which largely limits the vision to punt returns. Not sure if he's dynamic enough to win that job without other contributions.
Hmmm, I figured TK was tried and true (reliable in a pinch) whereas Lovett still needed some seasoning but had future potential to at least assume Leaf's punt return role (and reserve WR) next season. We shall see, hardly a major loss as a 7th rounder flier. But it's also not lost on me that Isaiah Williams made a real contribution for the Jets this year, it would've been nice to keep him around...

My golf game is envious of Bates’ draw in the long game.
Curious about Lovett’s overall status too, as well as some of the other developing players on Reserve as we move along.
