Exit interviews: During season of offensive inconsistency, Lions QB Jared Goff remained productive and efficient
Wrapping up the Detroit Lions’ 2025 season, we’re doing our annual position-by-position evaluation of the roster. Today, we’ll focus on the play of the team’s quarterbacks.
The straightforward stats
Jared Goff: 17 starts, 393-for-578 (68.0%), 4,564 yards, 34 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 105.5 passer rating.
Advanced metrics
Despite a coordinator change, Goff continued his run of highly efficient seasons, posting the second-best passer rating of his 10-year career. However, his QBR, a down-to-down efficiency metric that factors in situation and scrambling, was a four-year low, ranking 17th among qualified quarterbacks. That correlates with a success rate that was his second-lowest in the past six seasons.
There were minimal changes, year-to-year, in Goff’s under-the-hood metrics. He still has a quick trigger, averaging 2.57 seconds per pass attempt. That was down from 2.71 seconds in 2024, with only Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa getting the ball out more quickly.
Goff remains heavily reliant on short throws and yards after the catch, maximizing the roster’s speed-and-space arsenal. His average pass traveled just 6.43 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, which ranked 22nd, while the team’s average YAC checked in at No. 2.
