Exploring 15 options for Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator vacancy following John Morton's dismissal
On Tuesday, two days after finishing the season with a win over the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions fired offensive coordinator John Morton.
The move wasn’t particularly surprisingly. Morton struggled in his one season to maintain Detroit’s offensive dominance and had been stripped of his play-calling duties mid-season.
While coach Dan Campbell weighs his next move, searching for a fourth offensive coordinator in six years, here are 15 names, listed alphabetically, to consider for the newly created vacancy.
David Blough, Commanders quarterbacks coach
Had the NFL Network not reported that the Lions will interview Blough, I probably wouldn’t have put the former Detroit backup quarterback on this list. It just feels premature, two years into his coaching career.
However, if Campbell is going to make the call, I can lay out Blough’s credentials. Notably, not only did he play under former coordinator Ben Johnson in Detroit, but they also share a mentor in John Shoop, who served as a coordinator and position coach for both during their college careers.
