Key piece in David Montgomery trade, Juice Scruggs has eyes on Lions' starting guard job
Allen Park — In early March, Juice Scruggs couldn’t have been more disconnected from his job as an NFL offensive lineman.
In the heart of the lull between the Houston Texans’ playoff elimination at the hands of the New England Patriots and the first set of voluntary workouts that kick off the offseason program, Scruggs was in Costa Rica, celebrating his first wedding anniversary with wife Gabriella.
Scruggs’ phone didn’t have service. For most on a tropical getaway with your spouse, that inconvenience would be a blessing in disguise, allowing you to be fully present in the moment.
However, more than 1,000 miles away, people were trying to reach Scruggs with some life-altering news. Fortunately, Gabriella had bars and picked up when her husband’s agent called multiple times, attempting to reach his client.
Gabriella learned the news first. She advised her husband to sit down before letting him know he’d been traded and they were headed to Detroit.
