Brad fleeced Houston… plain and simple.

I have zero expectations for Vaki but I’m curious if he actually plays a role on offense this season. Trading up for a special teams ace seems like an absurd move in isolation.

Is Scruggs a back up center for us?There will be centers available in the third round. Now we can package our 2 4th rounders.

Justin quoted Zierlein's writeup from his draft year in the article. Judging from that and tidbits I've recently read on the web we will be better off with Colon as a backup. Who knows though Maybe Hank can do something with him.

Chad H's avatar

Colon is one of the worst linemen I’ve ever seen. I don’t buy that lol.

Rumor has it he's looking to trade up from that 4th spot plus a 3rd rounder next season to draft a kid from Singapore who he heard can run real fast. Just let Brad cook!!! ....by the way, what's that burning smell?

Wow, what was that comment by D-Mo on Twitter about then?

Knew it was coming. Hate to see it. Montgomery was a solid player.

Now...let's figure out how Maxx Crosby can fit.

Gibby goes down and then what? They got rid of Reynolds who was a decent backup. Won't matter unless the O-line gets back some of its mojo.

uhhhh….”He missed the first 10 games of the 2023 season with a hamstring injury….2024 started most of the season but ranked 32nd out of 33 qualifying players for pass block win rate as a center…..2025, Scruggs had only one start and mostly appeared on special teams, and was a healthy scratch for one of the Texans' playoff games.” Resurrection of Ragnow he ain’t.

I wouldn't get too high on Scruggs. He was not very good. BUT this was overall good compensation on this trade. I'm ok with it.

The return was higher than I expected. Especially when you factor in some cap savings. Hopefully Holmes will not trade the picks away to move up for a physical specimen who isn't good at football. I've seen enough of those for a while.

Smart but sad move by Holmes. Hope he uses the picks to improve team and he doesn’t Broderick or manu on them.

Patrick M's avatar

Jury’s still out on Manu, methinks. But otherwise agree.

Jim Pen's avatar

yeah, in other news drafting teez tabor was a mistake

Logically, I know this was the right move for all parties and saw it coming a mile away. Emotionally, I'm sad to lose him. I have only two requests: 1 - Do NOT bring in Aaron Jones (please lord) and 2 - BH may NOT throw away this 4th round pick to move up 6 spots to draft a wide receiver or a project D-Tackle or some other such nonsense. Make it count.

It was a good trade, though I'll miss D-mo

While people talk about Montgomery's usage dropping off because of the offensive coordinator or Gibbs coming on, very little has been mentioned about the Interior linemen play. Justin, did you ever weigh in on this?

Maybe Brad Holmes has someone else in mind like they when traded Jamaal Williams. Perhaps our Sonic might get a Shadow or even a Tails

Jordan D's avatar

This would be my guess, hence the timing ahead of free agency. As emotional as this may be, I'll be happy if we sign a cost-effective option as a solid #2 and net a 4th (+ 7th and OL depth that might be a scrub).

RyanH's avatar

Sad to see Montgomery go. But they got a decent return for a guy that was ready to move on. Plus one report I read said the Texans were his #1 choice. So win-win.

Jordan D's avatar

I truly hope that's the case and he got exactly what he wanted.
