Lions camp observations: Barnes picks Goff, Bridgewater drops some dimes and offense grinds screen designs

Allen Park — Here are some notes and observations from the Detroit Lions’ Thursday morning training camp practice.

● A couple of small updates regarding participation. Two players were not on the field after practicing the day before: Offensive tackle Giovanni Manu and defensive end Payton Turner.

Manu landed on the non-football injury list Wednesday night with an issue he failed to disclose, according to coach Dan Campbell. Light on specifics, Campbell did indicate that it could put the young lineman on the shelf for a few months.

As for Turner, he’s dealing with a back injury. It wouldn’t be as notable if it was most any other player, but the former first-round defender has been plagued by durability concerns much of his career. He’s previously missed large portions of three seasons with shoulder, toe and rib injuries.

Turner had been repping with the second-team defense much of the offseason.

● The defensive play of the day happened in the early stages of the first full-team segment of the practice.
