Allen Park — A day after establishing the team’s initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season, the Detroit Lions stood pat after sifting through the hundreds of players that hit waivers Sunday night.
Across the league, 29 players found new homes via waivers, with the Miami Dolphins adding seven through the process. Atlanta, Kansas City, Minnesota, New England, New Orleans, Tennessee and the New York Jets were the other teams awarded multiple claims.
It’s possible the Lions put in a claim on one or more of those 29 players, but were sniped by a team higher in the waiver order, which is based on last year’s final standings. The league doesn’t report non-awarded claims.
Last year, the Lions claimed three players off waivers following final cuts, picking up defensive linemen Tyler Lacy and Tyrus Wheat, as well as defensive back Thomas Harper. Lacy and Harper both made the team’s 53-man roster this weekend.
In addition to Detroit not claiming any talent on Monday, none of the 24 players the team waived the previous night were claimed by another team, including popular undrafted rookies Luke Altmyer and Erick Hunter.
That gives the team its pick of which of those players will make up their initial 16-man practice squad, which is expected to be largely in place by the end of Monday.
Good news about none of our guys getting poached.
