Allen Park — A week after completing all 12 of his first-half passes during a road win in Arizona, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff took things a step further, establishing a new NFL record with an 18-for-18 performance in Monday’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
The “perfect” showing blew the previous mark for single-game pass attempts without an incompletion out of the water. The previous bar was a 10-for-10 outing by Hall of Famer Kurt Warner in 2005, when a knee injury prevented him from finishing the contest.
You might expect completing all 18 passes would come via a lot of shorter throws, and you wouldn’t be wrong. Goff connected on 13 throws within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, and none of his 18 passes traveled more than 20 yards beyond the line.
That doesn’t mean there weren’t some impressive moments for Goff, so let’s look first at those throws, starting with one of the game’s biggest plays, a 70-yard touchdown toss to Jameson Williams.
