The Lions are bracing to be without Sam LaPorta the remainder of the season after coach Dan Campbell announced the third-year tight end required surgery on his injured back.
Given that we would have likely won the Philly game were he playing, I'd say this is a significant blow, especially against defensive lines like Minnesota, Rams, GB, and Giants. It feels like we're going to be relying even more heavily on short screen passes to the running backs, which will be sniffed out quickly, but not sure what else we're gonna do. Amon-Ra is seemingly not the answer anymore, and I don't know where that leaves this offense when teams bring pressure.
He's been around the locker room all week and seems in great spirits, interacting with his teammates, but it doesn't mean he's symptom-free, particularly when it comes to activity-induced symptoms. Players in protocol are prohibited from interviews, understandably, but I would say his presence is encouraging.
Good news - Bad news. The offense should be able to overcome the loss of LaPorta, orr more precisely, the loss of a receiving tight end. Got enough other receivers to make up for it. Heck, put Skipper out there for 30 plays and force the defense to defend the run and play man coverage.
Hmm, should I cope and interpret the rest of the season as in the rest of the REGULAR season? But then I touched grass and realized back injuries are serious, so just be happy it seems he'll be good for next season. I wonder if this expedites the see if Meeks can play TE process?

Can we get Shane Zylstra back? He may be our 2nd best receiving TE.
Terrion Arnold must have had a pretty major concussion. I did not see a replay of when it happened.

Shame, he was a major outlet for Goff and a great part of the run blocking.
Mr. Isaac TeSlaa, it is time to get electric ⚡️

Firkser/Horton would fill TE snaps before Meeks. Any elevation for Meeks is going to be more special-teams related.
I forgot about Horton. Was intrigued by him in camp.
