Locker Room (Cleanout) Buzz: Campbell's first priority, LaPorta on injury status, Robertson and Muhammad talk future and more
Allen Park — The Detroit Lions players cleaned out their lockers on Monday after Sunday’s season-ending win over the Chicago Bears. Here are some of the things I learned bouncing around the room.
Campbell’s first offseason priority
Lions coach Dan Campbell has a lot to mull over in the coming days and weeks as he looks to get the Lions back on track in 2026. But his self-evaluation? That’s already complete.
“Not good enough,” Campbell said. “We didn’t get in (the playoffs). I mean we underachieved, so not good. I’m going to give myself a freaking F.”
Not surprising, Campbell didn’t yet have any big-picture answers about any of the numerous issues that plagued his team throughout the campaign, but he does have a top priority to tackle as he starts working through things.
“Well, the first thing I’ve got to figure out is the staff,” Campbell said. “I need to make sure that — where do we go from here? I need to make sure that I feel good about where the guys are at, the positions they’re in. Or do we tweak a couple of things, move a couple of guys, (or) do we stay pat? Those are the things I’ve got to sort through. That’s the first (thing) for me. That’s what I’ve got to get through. And I’ve got to do some digging here.”
That evaluation likely starts with the offense, where coordinator John Morton was stripped of play-calling duties midway through the season, and the ground game’s consistency took a nose-dive under the direction of offensive line coach Hank Fraley.
Of course, Campbell was asked how much interest he had in remaining the primary play caller. He left the door open for either outcome.
