I like that they may focus on stopping the pass first this year. Way too many dagger catches against the D last year.
Does the $13 million that OverTheCap says that Joseph has in injury protection for 2027 (of which, $8.74 million has already been guaranteed) only count if Joseph can never play again? I wasn’t sure how injury protection clauses worked? That would impact how much cap the Lions would have to eat of his contract if they released him before the 3rd league day of the 2027 season.
I have to believe that, with the way Kerby's contract was structured (so many option years, participation bonuses, etc) that the knee was a known issue in 24/25. There must be some angle that will allow him to take an injury settlement, and lift some of the dead cap money off the books. I don't see a scenario where he plays again, given what is being said/not said. There must be something related to timing, etc that is incentivizing both sides to ride this out. Also, I respect that Justin's hands are a little tied here to not start going through the financial ramifications of a 'No Kerby' situation, but pretty sure that article is already sitting in draft form. :)
Yeah its kind of a puzzler to me. Looking further into it we seem to be in a position that pretty much forces us to keep Kerby on the roster this year since his option bonus is guaranteed. I don't think we have to pick up his 27 option bonus though so maybe then but still costly

Cutting Kerby before next year’s option bonus kicks in would result in $13.7mm of dead money (only ~$4.5mm more than his 2027 cap hit if he were still on the team). All things considered, it’s not a bad fallback.
Assuming he doesn’t return to form, we would be sacrificing wayyyy more future cap room than that if we keep him around. Taking an extra $4.5mm hit next year to clear all future cap hits ($60mm+) would be a gift. Brilliantly structured deal.
I really hope Jameson Williams focused his efforts on tracking the ball and making catches that come over his back shoulder. Jameson Williams does a lot of things will but he really struggled to track the ball on those types of throws on deeper vertical routes.

Unfortunately and I loved him as a player for this team but I don’t expect Joseph to play again.
We don't hype anyone up in May , but I didn't hear nothing about June.
