There a number of important players that should be put in bubble wrap this time of year. The fact that LaPorta takes a shot to the hip and our LG takes a shot to head. What are we doing? Full contact? Dumb
The alternative is with no contact the players won’t be ready to play until 3-4 weeks into the season. You can’t afford to start in such a hole every year. Plus the players would be even more susceptible to injury under full game situations against other teams.
Some more than others. If you think the Lions are one of the most injured teams year after year and that it’s all just bad luck, then we’ll just agree to disagree.
The Lions don’t practice like every other team. Players who have played other places say Lions’ camp is more physical. And it results in injuries that derail seasons. Hence a last place finish last year. Tendons tear. Ankles turn. I get it. But I’m talking about broken wrists, bruised hips, and concussions. But I didn’t go 9-8 and finish in last place with the golden age of roster talent, so what do I know.
Really tough update for LaPorta. When healthy he is a top-10 TE (imo) but it feels like just as he was starting to get back into game shape and in rhythm with the offense, now he's going to miss a chunk of time again.
Hopefully he'll just shake this one off but it begins to feel like we're *approaching* "what-if" territory. Best ability is availability and that's quickly becoming an issue with SLP.
The offense needs him in both the pass and run game. With the OL issues we're already having, a rocky start for SLP (if he plays at all) would be a big-time setback for the team as a whole.
Nothing serious on LaPorta at least.
you hope.
Campbell said he’s good long-term.

So the alternative is what? No full contact through the entire 6 weeks of training camp for certain players?
I don't know that it's the practice of full contact The Lions and every other team leverage is what is "dumb".

every nfl team holds full contact practices before the season and during the season.

Well that is a SUPER positive headline
