If you're gonna bring receipts and thump your chest when you are proven right, I expect more of the same when you're wrong. Brad had less of a mea culpa than was needed. I expected more details as to where Holmes felt they made some misses
I see little reason to get rid of DMo. If needed in some great trade ok maybe. Went 15-2 with him there and getting touches and suddenly none? Thats an OC issue. DMo blocks well for protection and can easily include others
I want to discuss Holmes' comments on Ratledge because one could combine several quotes from Holmes, Glasgow, and Ratledge and connect dots that the idea is to have Tate be the long-term answer at Center. While this next season might be too quick for him, I could see the team being aggressive in acquiring a stopgap seasoned vet type for a year.
I could also see them bringing in, through draft or FA, a new face as a swing C/OG.
And it's possible the team feels good enough to trot Ratledge out there at C next season like they did with Ragnow his second season.
On a scale of 1-5, how would you rate the likelihood of those three scenarios?
It certainly seems like Ratledge could do as well as Glasgow did this past season and the FO seemed comfortable rolling with that in 2025, though they may not feel the same way about it now.
I would like to know more about these big deal he was working on that fell apart. I’m not going to take his word about some mystical deals he’s been working on for months. Tell us about one, just one. Maybe Justin you know something about these deals that fell through? I hope he isn’t making it up.
I am not sure exactly what the fan base expected here. Sackcloth and ashes? That’s not how these things go. It will be interesting to see if the organization takes a chance on someone like McDaniel. Could be a good opportunity to bring some different DNA into the coaching group, which seems like something they need right now. Great to have everybody working hard and pulling on the rope the same way, but taking the next step will require new and different ideas on offense.
About what I expected...nothing concrete. The secondary??? Reed still iffy. Kirby and Branch injury impacts unknown. Amik possibly gone. Rakestraw and Arnold not staying on the field. Maybe it's the curse of Okudah haunting the Lions.
Justin, can you define “grit” for me as it relates to a pro football player? At this level all pro players are tough and to some extent play through injuries. So to Holmes and Campbell, what does grit entail?
Gotta be honest - very disappointed with this presser. Zero confidence instilled by Brad to the fan base. A lot of "we're gonna look at this" and "we're gonna look at that" and "we didn't really know Frank was gonna retire" and "we didn't really understand how bad the O-line was" and "we thought Kerby was going to come back" etc. etc. This did not sound like a GM in total control of his roster, it sounded like a GM that was confused and as lost as the fans, which is worrisome.
Enjoyed the presser. I think Holmes has already moved on and is looking at today and moving forward. I don't think it's arrogance. I am pretty comfortable knowing that Brad is his own toughest evaluator. That's why he is so good. I think he did reveal a couple of changes for himself. Hope Monty stays, hope Kirby will be ok..hope Branch doesn't lose his twitch because of the achilles.
No real inquiry to, or revelation from, Holmes and his ‘experiments’ of the past two drafts. Hopefully he will self-assess, take fewer long-term risks, and draft more like the first few years.
Holmes really, really wants credit for things he tried to do. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. You either have a consistent pass rush or you don’t. You either have a five capable offensive linemen or you don’t. Really disappointing press conference.
I think part of the point is that D-Mo might want more touches somewhere else. I brought this up weeks ago in the chat and got run out on a rail with angry responses, but the reality is that David might want to play somewhere where he's contributing more. He's a football player and he probably wants to play football.
Kerby Joseph's knee (sounds like arthritis) isn't something that "just pops up". I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like significant cap space went to a guy who isn't going to do much going forward. In a way, I'm glad Joseph got paid, but it will hurt not having that cap money for other guys.

So ‘paying attention to detail’ is a new thing? A radically different approach???

"Holmes said...that the organization will be weighing external options."
Did you read this as EXCLUSIVELY external options, or that it would include both internal and external options?

DMo
I agree. It’s still early and frankly it’s probably smart not to say too much right now anyway. The actual moves will tell us plenty.
IMO…The Lions beat seem to be getting caught up a little in ‘details’…it’s like they are asking Brad to “just lie so we can write something”.
Brad really seems to attempt to be transparent as possible and prefers to withhold vs deceive. I respect it.

Agree 100%
Did he comment at all on the Onwuzurike signing? I thought that was a really interesting question when you previewed what you would ask him.
Getting rid of DMo just to save $3.5 million in cap hardly seems prudent. Just figure out a way to use them both more.
