Here are some Detroit Lions players who are trending up, down and staying level out of the team’s preseason matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
Trending up: Josh Dobbs
If there were lingering doubts that Dobbs is equipped to serve as Jared Goff’s backup, this performance should quell concerns. The veteran repeatedly showed poise on third down and during a two-minute drive at the end of the first half, including impressive touch on a deep ball.
Dobbs finished 15-of-19 with a pair of touchdowns and a passer rating of 129.8.
Trending down: Luke Altmyer
Altmyer had an early interception, but that can be largely pinned on a miscommunication, with a receiver running the wrong play that unintentionally put a defensive back into the throwing window.
Altmyer settled down nicely, leading a touchdown drive later in the first quarter, but that was offset by another turnover, a fumble, when he held on to the ball too long and took an unnecessary hit in the pocket.
