Each time the Lions have signed a player to the roster or practice squad the past week — hell, each time they bring in a player for a workout — there’s inevitably someone on social media ready with a sardonic comment about that player not being an edge rusher. It’s like Tyrus Wheat is invisible.
The guy has .5 sacks in his career. The Lions are using the Tigers playbook which is grasping at straws instead of picking up established talent. Look at how Kenta Maeda, Randall Cobb, Chris Paddock , and Charlie Morton are turning out for the Tigers.
I get the lack of attention for Wheat. He’s in off the wire. It’s a bottom add that looks more like a p squad addition than a roster player. The angst we all have is knowing there isn’t a reliable number 2 DE and MCDC says “we’re good”. What else would he say? Lions were never going to bring in Za’darius’ contract. Obviously they believed their roster options were better than the draft choices. Let’s just hope we stay healthy.

Unless he is a monster talent like Hutch or Parsons, how well he does might depend on what the others in the D-line are doing. That could maybe free him up to make some plays...like the invisible man. The key to the D-line has to be Davenport. If he gets it going, then the whole D will be better. If not...??
Houston never fit Glenn's scheme and was a consistent source of frustration. Wrote two straight years about how they might cut him because of his inability to develop. He's a one trick pony. That one trick, though, can be really good. Also, that one trick didn't play on Detroit's scheme.

Yes, I'm not saying they should have kept Houston. Fit is important, athletically, attitude, etc.
