What we'll be watching during first Lions OTA practice open to the media
Allen Park — The Detroit Lions kicked off their first of three on-field OTA sessions on Wednesday, with local media getting their first look at the team at the end of the week.
Obviously, at this stage of the offseason, there are heavy restrictions. The team can conduct on-field work, including 11-on-11 practice segments, but they won’t be in pads and the league’s collective bargaining agreement prohibits “live contact.”
Remember, the Lions lost an OTA practice in 2024 for exceeding permissible contact.
In addition to this week’s stretch of practices, the Lions will conduct a second and third set of OTAs from June 2-4 and June 9-11. All of these sessions are voluntary.
The team will conclude this phase of the offseason program with mandatory minicamp, June 12-14, before a summer break that leads into training camp in late July.
Here’s six things we’ll be looking for during this earlier stage.
