The defining play of the Detroit Lions’ 38-30 victory over the Baltimore Ravens was David Montgomery’s 72-yard run late in the third quarter. Let's look at all the key elements from the romp.
I’m really loving this subscription just you do a wonderful job from your pregame analysis to what the defense needed to do how everything played out and how our team fights together every play the lions coaches in their media availability also spell out a lot for us, but it’s also nice to have it all tied together easier to understand I’m a football junkie, but I feel like I’m learning more and more Thanks, Justin.
I think teams have been keying a bit on Gibbs when he is the lone back. Whatever that 3 back set up behind Goff is, I can't remember seeing it before. Like an "I" formation with Monty, then Laporta then Gibbs all stacked behind Goff.
When he gets blocking, Monty is just as dangerous as Gibbs. I am already sick of hearing about how bad the Ravens were. It should be about how good the Lions are.
Man this team is enjoyable to watch. The talent speaks for itself but the unselfish, teamwork type attitude is what sets this team apart from all other teams!
I was going to say the same thing. Those three were hauling downfield to potentially get a block or to be able to jump on a loose ball if Monty coughs it up when the defender takes a swing at it from behind. 99/100 that effort goes unnoticed by everyone except the coaches and teammates, but the one time that they are there to make one last block or recover a fumble is massive.
The best part of that run by Montgomery (tv version) was seeing him look up to use the “rear view mirror” (jumbotron) and angling away from the pursuit.
Stellar breakdown.
Slight nitpick, the guy who ran it down was CB Marlon Humphrey (#44), not LB Teddye Buchanan (#40.)
Humphrey reached a top speed of 21.19 mph while running 77.5 yards to make the tackle, per NextGenStats.
Per myself, wifey & all the Ravens sitting around us, that was pure insanity. 4.41 is respectable but holy cow he was booking.

DMo, his nickname is DMo, NOT Monty. Also, it’s Maryland I formation (from every analyst that I’ve watched/listened to)

I love how all three receivers kick it into high gear to try to get downfield and get another block.

He almost rolled over his tackler without his knee making contact with the ground. Now THAT would have been a TD to see!
Genuine question: isn't 13 personnel with 1 RB and 3 TEs? I thought 3 WRs would be 11 personnel.
Yes. 11 personnel. Lack of sleep got me.
