10 takeaways from Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell's combine media sessions
Indianapolis — Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell met with the media at the scouting combine on Monday. Here are 10 takeaways from their sessions.
Shifting focus
Campbell opted to start his session with a nearly four-minute opening statement, where he hit on a number of topics, mostly focused on his recently announced coaching staff for the 2026 season.
In terms of newsworthy items, he noted that safeties coach Jim O’Neil had an offer to take a unspecified job with the New York Jets. The Lions ultimately were able to retain O’Neil with the elevated title of assistant head coach.
I’ve previously expressed my opinion on O’Neil and the work he’s done during his time in Detroit. Most impressively, he helped take Kerby Joseph from good to great, getting vastly improved tackling and eliminating many of the unnecessary risks the playmaker had taken in previous seasons, resulting in an All-Pro season.
The other thing that caught my ear was the offseason attention Campbell was committing to the defense.
