Detroit's ability to affect the QB from the inside was an issue for several seasons, but it was trending in a good direction with Alim McNeill and Levi Onwuzurike last season. With both on the shelf, who will disrupt the pocket now?
I will never agree with this regime’s insistence on putting all the pass rush eggs in a couple baskets, especially a couple with injury issues. Hutch and Davenport at end (both coming off injury) and Levi and Alim inside (Levi with extensive injury history and Alim missing half the year)
The draft over the past several years. Outside of Hutch and Paschal, they haven’t taken an EDGE in the first two days of the draft.
They also have prioritized run stuffing instead of pass rush, so Paschal barely counts. That’s also the case on the interior. Williams and Martin were productive run stuffers in college with limited pass rush.
Also trading future assets to take a developmental tackle and 4th string RB in 2024 and a developmental WR in 2025 seems like a ton of investment that could have been used to add depth to the pass rush.
Losing players is always problematic, particularly when they are veterans.
That said, Levi for me, is not appreciably different from MD--they have both missed more time on the sidelines than in games. As such, any expectations were appropriately tempered.
Now before anyone gets out their crying towel, let's remember the pressure on this team is generated first and foremost from the outside. Plus the #1 responsibility for the IDL is stopping the run, not rushing the passer; and that job should be adequately accomplished with: DJ, Tyleik Williams, Roy Lopez, Chris Smith, and Myles Adams in the interim period.
So if the real concern is rushing the passer, let's get Trey or Z in here to help with that. Pretending the loss of Levi is somehow catastrophic, is clearly an over-reaction and distraction from where the true need exists on the DL.
To lose Mac, Levi and even wingo is painful. I have a gut feeling that Brad is going to pick up a player or two once camp cuts begin. Maybe even another from squads PS after final cuts.
Remind me, Justin. I'm 67 years old and I literally can't remember, I have CRS (Can't remember shit ). Did the Commish retire or did the Lions cut him? And if they didn't, is he available.
It's frustrating to see injuries piling up so early in training camp. It's a harsh reminder of how brutal football can be. It often feels like positions with an abundance of talent naturally thin out as the season progresses due to injuries.
Even with a seemingly full wide receiver room, if a player like Teslaa is good enough, he'll likely find playing time as opportunities open up. I'd imagine most teams are dealing with similar injury issues, with two or three players already sidelined for at least part of the season.
Just getting to the tournament is the first goal. It won't be a cakewalk like the Patriots had for so many seasons. The Lions will--or should--have things ironed out by January. Let the crapshoot begin!!

Who would you have added and at what cost?

I hope Paschal's absence is short lived. I think he'd be primed to take on the interior pass rush role.

He retired. He's currently trainting to run a half marathon.

Ugh. I'm already stressed and exhausted by defensive injuries and the season hasn't started. Whyyyyyyy

A bit of trouble in both the O-line and D-line. Surely they can patch it all up but will it be enough to get as far as they want in the playoffs?
I’m with you! The middle of the OL is a big concern now as is the middle of the DL.

I think Shep is going to rely on the LB's to produce more pressure in his defense. Hopefully they can get home and gets some QB hits/sacks.
