With Alex Anzalone skipping the voluntary portions of the offseason program and Malcolm Rodriguez still working his way back from last season's torn ACL, the Lions felt the need to add some veteran linebacking depth to the offseason roster ahead of this week's OTAs.
Athletic Linebackers, safeties, and TEs can make excellent special teams guys and emergency backups to the backups. Birmingham Groves product Anthony Pittman has carved out an excellent special team career.
Lbers can play good football well into their thirties. With him joining now and going through training camp he’s definitely a good signing. Was very productive with Houston. Would be interesting to see what his contract looks like. With Barnes missing most of last season and Rodrigo and Anzalone missing multiple games we definitely need depth.

It's a long shot, a very long shot, but I guess he has a chance to stick, on the Veteran Practice Squad.
He will not at any point in the season be any sort of replacement if Anzalone holds out.
I don't think he's seen as anything but a little bit better option than the guy they cut to add him.
