As far as depth goes, I don't know how any team is supposed to be able to field nearly two starting lineups for each side of the ball. With paying a good chunk of money to a handful of very good starting players, that somewhat limits who you can find as really good backups.
If anything, last year Detroit proved that they could find decent backups on defense with all the injuries. Despite not winning a playoff game, 15-2 is nothing to sneeze at. Very few teams no matter how good they are accomplish that and no team has ever won 15 games twice (to my knowledge). It's kind of a game of luck in so many ways.
the interest in Barnes for me is how much money they gave him. When I saw 8 mil a year I went okay, they must have something in mind for him and we are all waiting to see what is worth that money.
Playing 60% of the time doesn't seem worth it, unless he is getting pressure blitzing. I agree him looking for gaps and working stunts up the middle is a much better use for him. Maybe they take him off the field in the Nickel but if he can get 6-8 sacks and be a pain in the ass for opposing backfields this season on the early downs he is worth every penny of 8 mil
Z was looking for that kind of money to play maybe 30% of the time. I think Barnes has demonstrated value for that amount of playing time, and he still has the chops to fill for AA or Campbell.
What's the impact of Green Bay losing not just Kenny Clark, but T.J. Slayton?
Slaton was bad. Addition by subtraction.

Another great mailbag.

Let's get a solid win in GB to put me in a positive mood to start the season.
