Lions adding former Pro Bowl LB White in response to rookie Rolder's practice injury

Allen Park — After adding veteran Troy Reeder to the roster just before the start of training camp, the Detroit Lions are bringing aboard a second linebacker days later, reaching an agreement with former Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro Devin White.

The news was first reported by Jordan Schultz and confirmed with multiple sources by the Detroit Football Network. The White addition is in direct response to rookie Jimmy Rolder suffering an injury during Friday’s practice.

Details of Rolder’s injury still aren’t fully known, but a team source confirmed the Michigan product is expected to be out of action “for a while.”

The No. 5 pick in the 2019 draft after earning first-team All-SEC honors back-to-back years at LSU, White started 75 games across five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

White was at his best during a three-year stretch from 2020-22, averaging 131 tackles and racking up 18.0 sacks and 12 pass defenses.

After the 2023 season, White signed a one-year contract with Philadelphia, but was beat out for a starting job by Nakobe Dean, resulting in White being released a month into the season without having played a regular-season snap for the Eagles.

White landed in Houston a couple of weeks later and appeared in seven games for the Texans (176 defensive snaps), tallying 19 stops.

White returned to a starting role with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025, appearing in all 17 games for the franchise and finishing with a career-high 174 tackles (11.0 for a loss) and 2.5 sacks.

Regarding Rolder, he exited Friday’s practice to be evaluated for a leg injury. There was no immediate update provided on his status, the team is off on Saturday and coach Dan Campbell isn’t scheduled to speak to the media again until Monday morning.
