Lions camp observations: Joseph moving well during sideline workout, Williams flashes contested-catch ability
Allen Park — Here are some notes and observations from the Detroit Lions’ Wednesday morning training camp practice, the first of the offseason.
● Typically, we start with participation, but there isn’t much to add on this front. It was previously reported that Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch and Tyler Conklin would be starting on the physically unable to perform list, while Christian Izien and Christian Mahogany are on the non-football injury list.
Additionally, running back Jahmyr Gibbs is sitting out to open camp, presumably related to ongoing extension talks with the team.
Gibbs was nowhere to be seen on Wednesday, but the other injured players were either on the sideline or working off to the side. Most notably, Joseph took part in an intense session with a member of the training staff that included high-speed lunges, side-to-side crossovers and sprints up the hill, the lasting memorial to former coach Matt Patricia’s tenure in Detroit.
Joseph might be two or three weeks away from a potential return to practice, but it was easy to view the way he was moving as encouraging, particularly the lunges.
In typical Joseph fashion, he popped on social media immediately after the workout, shirtless and sweating, delivering an impassioned message.
“When you see me, just know all I do is f______ work,” Joseph said. I don’t give a f___ what nobody else says, all I do is grind, baby.”
Mahogany also did some running on the hill, while Branch helped lead a couple of the defensive back drills during individual work.
