Lions turn to familiar face for backup QB role, agreeing to bring back Teddy Bridgewater

Allen Park — A day after backup quarterback Kyle Allen accepted an offer from the Buffalo Bills, the Detroit Lions are turning to a familiar face to fill the role.
According to the NFL Network, Detroit has agreed to terms with veteran Teddy Bridgewater for what will be his third stint with the franchise.
Bridgewater initially signed with the Lions for the 2023 season, then opted for retirement after the campaign to coach his former high school, Miami Northwestern.
After leading the program to a state championship, Bridgewater rejoined the Lions for the stretch run of the 2024 season, even playing a series in the team’s playoff game against Washington while starter Jared Goff was evaluated for a possible concussion.
Bridgewater resumed his career last season, joining Tampa Bay for his 11th season. He appeared in four games, completing 8-of-15 for 62 yards.
For his career, Bridgewater has started 65 games, but none since 2022 with Miami. He’s completed 66.3% of his throws for 15,182 yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
Of note, Bridgewater overlapped with new Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing for four seasons in Minnesota (2014-17).

Very happy with this. A capable QB, a team player, even a vet helping others. Feeling very comfortable with this selection—extremely glad he was available.
He's the perfect backup unless Goff gets hurt.
