Allen Park — Here are some expanded thoughts to end the week as the Detroit Lions prepare to play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Parsing Porter fallout

I wasn’t sure I’d have anything more to say about this week’s Joey Porter Jr. trade after addressing the possibility of the Lions entering the fray a couple weeks back and exploring some of the fallout after news broke that he was being shipped to Dallas for a pair of draft picks, headlined by a 2028 second-round choice.

However, coach Dan Campbell said more than I anticipated when asked how aggressively the Lions pursued making a deal for the big, rangy, physical and disgruntled defender.

Summarized, Campbell said general manager Brad Holmes had been exploring the possibility of the deal for a while, but with an acquisition of that magnitude, “Everything's got to align.”

Let’s parse out what we can learn from the coach’s answer.
